Chat GPT makes it easier for journalists to getting their articles ready within a short span of time. They can simplify complicated sujects through this platform. Journalists can prepare themselves for interview by listing questions on Chat GPT.
However, Chat GPT brings a bundle of drawbacks, too. The results of Chat GPT cannot always be trusted. For example, it promotes stereotypes. When Chat GPT was asked to name top 10 philosophers, it didn't name a single female philosopher until asked otherwise. In another case, it wringly assiciated the Bharat Jodo Yatra with RSS when it had been led by Congress. It can show answers that people want to see rather than what the correct answer should be. It can create a barrier for innovative ideas as people might fall dependent upon this for their content. Chat GPT can ruin the creativity of journalism.
ChatGPT is known to show the most likely answer to queries and not the exact answer required. So, the credibility can be questioned. Hence, it might create answers that are not factually right or are biased ultimately making its results untrustworthy. Moreover, data stories cannot be fogured out using ChatGPT.
Combining the catalogue of both pros and cons, ChatGPT serves the purpose of having an artificial person with knowledge communicating with you on history, culture, philosophy, science and more. Chat GPT moght turn out as a boon or bane in journalism depending upon how it is being utilised. Journalists should harness this tool to the best of their knowledge.
